It might be surprising, but despite my high level of connectivity, I don’t do so well with the social web applications. I started with Orkut back in the day. We got all of our friends onto it, then we got tired of it after a few weeks. I have a Facebook account, but I don’t actually use it for anything. I primarily just use e-mail, IM and web forums for communication with the new world, and the telephone to communicate with the old world. Twitter is the first thing to put a kink in the works in quite some time.

If you are someone who participates on the web in any way, you must be familiar with the concept of spoilers. The general idea is that learning information about a work of art prior to experiencing it for yourself will negatively affect your personal experience with that work. The question of why spoilers have become a big issue is fairly obvious. What is more interesting is what the proliferation of spoilers says about the state of contemporary popular culture.

So imagine you are the owner of a company. You have many employees of all different kinds. Some of these employees are more productive than others. Some cost you more money than others. Shouldn’t you be allowed to get rid of the employees who cost you more than they are worth? Shouldn’t you be allowed to hire or fire anyone you want for any position for any reason? Police brutality is a problem we will always have to deal with as long as we have police. When you have people in a position of power and authority, some of them will always overstep their boundaries and fail to uphold their duty and responsibilities. Even the best law enforcement officers are still flawed human beings like you and me. They may act cool and professional while in uniform, but that is their job. In difficult situations where emotions run hot, and circumstances become dangerous, it is extremely difficult to keep cool and take the correct course of action. If we want a police force to serve and protect us, this is something we have to accept.

I am a relatively smart and popular guy with a sizable presence on the web. There are lots of people who know who I am via this blog, my podcast, conventions and comments I post on various sites. These people also know that I am very knowledgeable when it comes to topics such as anime, video games, manga and especially technology. It is no surprise that many of these people seek my advice when it comes to matters such as these. Usually this makes me happy, but sometimes it makes me sad.
